When I was old enough, my mom let me pour the birdseed into the bird feeder. She always warned me not to drop any on the ground, or whatever was in the seeds would grow.
I wasn’t good at funneling the tiny pellets into the feeder, and by the end of summer, corn stalks were beginning to sprout.
